What is climate change and what is it doing to our planet?
Climate Change is different to global warming, global warming is the earth getting hotter, climate change is changes on our earth's climate. The earth has warmed by an average 1*C in the last century. Although it might not sound like much, it means big things for people and wildlife around the globe. Though in NZ The temperature is twice the tree and reported for global data, which may be due to the relative absence of sulfate aerosols in the South Pacific.
The Amazon rainforest holds 20% of the Earth oxygen some scientists call it “the Earths lungs”, it has Over 1 million plant species living in it but they're becoming extinct due to logging, fires and greenhouse gases.
Climate change is already affecting wildlife all over the world, but certain species are suffering more than others. polar animals whose icy natural habitat is melting in the warmer temperature are particularly at risk. in fact, experts believe that the Arctic sea ice is melting at a shocking rate 9% per decade!
polar bears need sea ice to be able to hunt, raise their young and as places to rest after long periods of swimming.
The world is changing soon we will be living on a flooded wasteland wearing gas masks and being able to do nothing about it so if you don't want that to happen then step up and do something about it.
